Southern Carmine Bee-Eater
260 mm x 360 mm • Oil on linen
I’ve painted MANY Bee-eaters over the course of my career, but this was my very first time painting a Southern Carmine Bee-eater. I absolutely loved working with these bold, bright tones. There were many times I found myself marveling that so many different colours could be found on one individual. I captured the reference photo in the Kruger National park, I remember thinking at the time how striking the Bee-eater looked against the bright blue African summer sky.
