Pretty Lady
900 mm x 600 mm • Oil on Linen
When I came across this beautiful photo by Roger de la Harpe, I was immediately excited to recreate the bark of the tree. As I studied the image I developed the idea to play around with my brushstrokes. Slowly fading out detail towards the edges of the canvas. The leopard’s eyes are of course the main focus here and I wanted to highlight that in every way. This piece in particular was just the right mix of fun and adventure, in a creative sense. This particular leopard is also just so darn pretty!! I used my creative licence to add a few little scratches to her nose, as a reminder that there’s blazing strength, in lethal quantity, lurking beneath that feminine charm… but also because scratches are just fun to paint!
