1480 mm x 1060 mm (framed) • Oil on Linen
This is the largest oil painting I’ve tackled to date. The framed piece stands the same height as a male lion. The original reference photo was captured by Keith Connelly in Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. When I decided I wanted to feature a lion as a subject, I had a very specific image in mind. This lion was exactly that. He was gnarled, covered in scars that told an intricate story of a long, tough life in the bush, where strength and ferocity are key features to survival. The original painting now resides in a beautiful private bush home, in the wilds of Botswana.
