If A Bream Could Scream
1280 mm x 790 mm (framed) • Oil on linen
Any artist who has an affiliation with African Wildlife has probably at one time or another felt the urge to paint an African Fish-eagle in flight. When I first saw this beautiful reference, captured along the Chobe River by Peet Strydom, I knew I wanted to put it onto canvas. The choice of title was a flicker of comedy after a long stretch of rather bland and obvious painting titles… after spending so many hours capturing the truly shocked expression on the fish’s face, I found myself feeling very sorry for it, being whisked off to meet its fate, unable to utter even so much as a sound of protest- I’ll bet it had a lot to say!!
