360 mm x 260 mm • Oil on Linen
I have been drawing and painting malachite kingfishers for as long as I can remember, featuring them as subjects on family birthday cards back when I was a little girl. This was my first attempt at painting a malachite using oils as a medium. I really enjoyed the experience, being able to build up the rich colours and creating the fine feather detail that working in oil allows. The original reference photo was captured in the Kruger National Park, by Chris Martin Wildlife photography.
